Carbon Monoxide Awareness
Carbon Monoxide is a silent killer and every year people needlessly die or become chronically ill due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week
Week commencing Monday 17th November 2008 is Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week. Cobalt is proud to support such an important event and would like to draw everyone’s attention to it. It is important everyone is aware of the dangers of Carbon Monoxide and how they can protect themselves from this silent killer. To recognise this event at Cobalt Housing we have re printed our gas service booklet with an extra section focusing on the dangers of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
Where does carbon monoxide come from?
Gas stoves, fires and boilers, gas-powered water heaters, paraffin heaters, solid fuel powered stoves, boilers and room heaters if they are not properly maintained. Carbon monoxide can also seep into your home via shared flues and chimneys.
A few simple steps can be followed to make sure your home remains safe.
• All gas works must be carried out by a CORGI registered professional
• Ensure your gas appliances are serviced on an annual basis
• Never allow illegal gas workers to install or maintain your appliances
• If an appliance is not working properly, turn it off and get it checked by a CORGI professional
• Keep flues and vents clear. If you have a chimney make sure it’s swept regularly.
When used correctly gas can be a safe and economical fuel.
