Your home is very important and we want to make sure that we do everything possible to ensure that you can live there as long as you want to.

• Offer a wide range of payment options that are convenient to access
• Contact Housing Benefits departments to check the process of your claim
• Discuss your ability to pay your rent and the benefit options available to your before your tenancy commences
• Notify you in advance of any changes to your rent and service charges
• Send you quarterly statements in relation to your rent account and any other debts you may have with us
• Make realistic affordable repayment agreements to suit your personal circumstances, if you do fall into arrears
• Provide you with details of organisations that can give you impartial advice about benefits and debt

Despite the various systems in place to prevent debt, problems do sometimes occur 

How can you help yourself

To avoid falling behind with your rents payments, we suggest you

• Make your rent payments a priority
• Ensure you have all of the information available about your rent and tenancy obligations and ask for explanations from your Housing officer if required
• Ask for advice at an early stage
• Contact independent advice surgeries such as local Citizen Advice Bureau’s and advice agencies
• Request assistance if required to claim your benefits such as Housing Benefit ,Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance et.
• Keep receipts, statements and any other relevant information to enable us to assist you 

What happens if I have problems

This will depend on a range of factors including;

• The amount of rent owed
• The personal circumstances of the tenants
• The response of the tenant or their representative for information
