Families ‘Love where they live’ as week of action brings Liverpool community together

Families helped to brighten up their North Liverpool neighbourhood – and had a say on plans for the area’s future – as part of a major campaign to ‘Love where you live’.

Residents in Stonedale, Gillmoss, joined a special ‘Week of Action’ from Monday (April 14), which was organised by Cobalt Housing to bring the community together.

Families were invited to join in with a range of community projects, including planting hanging baskets, cleaning up the area, creating a temporary graffiti wall, and taking part in sporting activities, including cage soccer.

And the theme of the week was ‘Love where you live’ – aimed at highlighting the positives of life in the neighbourhood.

Meanwhile youngsters also took part in a special Easter egg hunt to find prizes hidden around the estate.

William Walsh, aged 19, from Stonedale Crescent, said: “I’ve taken part in activities all week – especially the sport events. It’s great that this ‘Week of Action’ has been organised in Stonedale. It means a lot to our community.”

William, who is studying for a youth work qualification at St Helen’s College, added: “The ‘Love Where You Live’ message displayed on the graffiti wall was really positive and I hope it will inspire the next generation in Stonedale to take pride in where they live.”

Cobalt Housing Community Regeneration Officer Manilla Sood, who helped to organise the week of activities, said:  “We’re very proud of the Stonedale neighbourhood and we have really enjoyed working with the community to help make sure everyone could get involved.

“This is the first time we have held an event like this in Stonedale and we hope to arrange something similar again as it has been a great success.”

Staff from Cobalt Housing were also on hand to talk to residents from Stonedale about how they think the area should be developed in the future.

Alan Rogers, Managing Director at Cobalt Housing, added: “We are looking at future plans for this area, so we wanted to bring the residents together with their neighbours to be a key part of the discussions and to find out how their community can be improved.”
